This is for a cool multi-rounder competition up at
2nd Round: Ink Drops!

Required artist comment/explanation:
I went for the fairly literal representation.
The first things that popped out when I first saw the tattoo [and thus what I wanted to emphasise]:
1) The colours and patterns that made up the snake were beautiful, and that..
2) The water surrounding it - how it covered certain parts and how from a perspective could be seen as trapping it, or supporting it. Depends how it was looked at, really.
The purpose of the weird belts are to imitate snakeskin [removable and can become seperate from the rest of the snake] as well as a twist on the original markings on the snake.
That massive blue shawl is the surrounding water - it was originally wrapping around her crazy like in the tattoo but this made the model look either like a wannabe saint or completely engulfed, totally the opposite moods that the tattoo gave me, and thus that idea was scrapped.
The tight see-through wraps round her midriff and upper legs are also like the water, but going over the snake's body [see the tattoo], and the base dress itself - the white dots are meant to show that that base dress is made entirely out of multicoloured sequins [though my current skill level has failed me D:], instead of large layered 'scales' that were my first response, and the colouring was meant to imitate the one already on the snake, but it seems my hands had minds of their own
Note: The orange semi-precious gems holding the belts together are representative of the snake's eyes.
Finally, the model's head. It's made to represent the snake's head in multiple ways - the metal decals as fangs, the split mini-ponytail [?] as the forked tongue, the buns as the bumps on the snakes head, etc. There are more notes on the deviation itself.

Sketched, inked, and coloured in with a mix of Letrasets and Copics. A lot of colour in the shawl was lost in the scanning, so this was replaced digitally in GIMP, along with other tweaks, like some flat colouring and BG/Title Text/Watermark. Total time about 6 hours, with the occasional distraction?
Some reference was made to [link] for colouring the see-through portions of her clothes.
